In direct translation, Landhuis means a country house. Our project aims to transform into an open, inclusive heart of the Zonnebeke village, where all generations can spend quality time together while embracing the villa’s significant heritage value. Placed amongst greenery of the park, the villa becomes a welcoming place with fairy-tale aura. We preserve and nurture its welcoming character.
The new, clear functional structure allows for a variety of programs and activities to serve the local community in as many ways as possible. A centrally located staircase and a new elevator enhance an open, flexible plan on all floors - each level can be used independently, and with acoustic walls and folding doors, rooms can be easily connected or separated from one another. The villa is primarily designed to serve local community-oriented functions, but it is also a place for meetings, education, rest, events and ceremonies. Such a functional mix is an asset that creates synergy and dynamics between the users, as well as between the villa and the rest of the park and castle area. The rooms on all levels have their own unique atmosphere and character.
While keeping the color palette of the facade close to the original one, we are adding skylights in the roof to light up the attic and improve its functionality. Adding a new color accent makes the villa even more interesting and attractive. The new entrance pavilion serves as a green terrace on the first floor. Such a distinctive entrance zone forms a clear, inviting signal for the guests.
